Time to Plan Summer Projects in Wellington

March 26, 2010 by Lorrie

A mosaic tile backsplash and limestone countertops give this kitchen a warm and inviting glow.

Summer is time for warm weather, vacations, and travel.  And it’s also a wonderful time for my seasonal clients to embark on upgrades to their winter homes.  I am here in Wellington during the summer and when my clients are away, I am able to get projects done quickly and efficiently without disturbing their daily routine.   There is nothing quite like leaving an old feature behind and returning to a wonderful new design!

Popular Summertime Projects:

  • New Flooring
  • Countertops
  • Painting
  • Wallpapering
  • Kitchen & Bath Renovations
  • New Furniture

It’s also a great time to purchase new furnishings for your Florida home so they can installed before you return in the Fall.  If you wait until Season to order furniture and draperies, sometimes they won’t arrive in time for you to enjoy them so it’s a good idea to plan ahead.  I can also arrange for your old furnishings to be consigned or donated to keep things moving along.

The same kitchen features furniture-styled cabinetry and a custom backsplash for the bar area.

I have worked with many clients remotely via email and phone and it’s a seamless process.  Once the project has been planned and a timeline determined, I  keep you informed with email updates that include photos and notes.  Not only does it save you the headache of living with the mess but it’s fun to return to a home that has been magically transformed!

So if you are thinking  it’s time to renovate or redecorate and love the idea of a trustworthy expert managing the process, just give me a call.  I work all around Wellington and Palm Beach….The Polo Club, The Equestrian Club, the Aero Club…wherever you are, I am here to help!  Call 561.791.8585.

The Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida

March 2, 2010 by Lorrie

If you don’t live in Wellington, Florida your might be curious about why so many people travel here each winter with their horses in tow.  Wellington is not your typical snowbird haven, it’s also home to the Winter Equestrian Festival which hosts thousands of people and horses each year.  (Approximately 2,800 riders and 5,800  horses!) People travel from around the world with horses for a series of competitions that run from January until April.  The riders range from children and amateurs up to world class and Olympic level.  And let me tell you, it’s thrilling to see a majestic horse and athletic rider fly over 6′ jumps.  It’s difficult to imagine unless you have seen it first hand, so here’s a great video from YouTube that gives you a taste.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with many equestrians which include polo players, jumpers and dressage riders.  After a long day at the barn, they enjoy coming home to beautiful comfortable home and I am happy to help.  So whether you are here for the Wellington Equestrian Festival or you like play golf, tennis or just soak up the sun, this is a great place to be for the Winter!

Sustainable Furnishings Expertise at Lorrie Browne Interiors

February 22, 2010 by Lorrie
This carved console is a wonderful example of sustainable furnishings with a more traditional look.

As an interior designer, I keep my knowledge current by taking continuing education classes each year.  A wonderful benefit of the Internet is that cutting-edge classes that used to require travel and time away from my office in Wellington, Florida are now offered as online seminars like the one I am going to tell you about…

I just completed an intensive course in sustainability and received my certification as an Accredited Professional from the Sustainable Furnishings Council.  The course is approved by ranking staff of Rainforest Alliance, World Wildlife Fund and one of the co-founders of US Green Building Council /LEED.  The course focuses specifically on residential furnishings and other interior design issues.

It provided a lot of detailed information on the environmental issues affecting our choices and the wide range of product solutions, most of which don’t cost any more than ordinary ones. It’s simply a matter of knowing the right places to look and the right questions to ask.

I had no idea how much of an impact we could all make by the choosing sustainable furnishings for our homes.  You might picture that sustainable furnishings all have a modern or tropical (think Bamboo)  look to them but that simply is not so!  There are so many choices our there and it’s all about the how a company sources and manfactures its products.  Where they get their wood, how they process it and what types of fabrics do they use?  From Classic to Modern styles, I can offer you a world of Sustainable options.   I truly look forward to being able to share what I have learned!
